Wild Life Development Update Details Combat Finishers and Stagger Overhauls

Wild Life progress report outlines upcoming combat finisher moves, weapon stagger adjustments, level design updates, and new sandbox tools.

The latest development update for Wild Life outlines ongoing progress across level design, combat mechanics, and character animation systems.

Combat System and Finishers

The team starts implementing finisher moves that trigger critical damage when players attack unsuspecting NPCs from behind or strike exhausted enemies. Combat balancing also addresses weapon staggers. Previously, all attacks triggered identical stagger lengths, favoring fast weapons. Under the new setup, quick attacks cause brief or no staggers, medium attacks stagger longer, and heavy attacks can knock targets completely off their feet.

Level Design and Asset Work

Warrior Village approaches a finalized alpha-quality blockout state. The alpha camp receives its next batch of final assets, and the grassland region enters the final blockout phase with a wider variety of plants, trees, and small rocks. Designers continue to polish Feral Bull attack patterns and values alongside ongoing work on critical damage systems and attribute-based equipment conditions.

Sandbox, UI, and Tools

Character presets now default to their hierarchy names instead of placeholder text when saved, preventing accidental overwrites. Trigger zones now supply the GUID of overlapped characters. Lua functions gain support for camera data, 3D coordinate projection, and sphere-casts. A new photo mode tied to the camera filter system is currently in development for story and sandbox modes.

Character and Animation Updates

Casual modern outfits are implemented for Max and Sethro characters alongside three updated male hairstyles. Developers are researching low-cost mesh-based physics for hair. The dagger moveset moves to game design for integration, and the Max and Riv minigame engine implementation reaches completion.
