Wild Life Development Update Details Combat Audio and Umbar Blockout

The Wild Life team outlines progress on the Umbar level blockout, combat sound implementations, and creature animation updates in a new report. Developers are also refining Warrior Village quests and adjusting enemy types for future builds.

The development team behind Wild Life details current production milestones across level design, programming, animation, and quest writing. The latest progress report outlines structural updates to environments, adjustments to weapon animations for the new combat system, and creature rebalancing.

Environment and Level Design

Level work centers on the Umbar blockout, focusing on roads and craftsmen workshops. The landscape pass is in full production, with terrain transitions between cliff meshes and ground getting refined. Developers are also building homes for the Warrior Village, designing a modular wall system for the Alpha Camp, and continuing the Apoc blockout.

Combat, Code, and Systems

Programmers implemented new sound effects for the combat system, though temporary sounds remain in use where necessary. Physics assets are built for new creatures to support ragdolls and projectile hits. Particle system improvements continue alongside a new map built to showcase prop options. Character artists are working on the medieval villager outfit, a female Wildfire outfit, and research into new hair movement methods.

Animations and Creature Changes

Pistol and rifle animations underwent passes to integrate properly with the new combat system, following similar updates for bows. Animation work has also started on the feral boar, a small creature replacing the tiny feral lions from the demo using the same skeleton. The demo boss feral lions now function as the larger variant. Motion capture shoots for cutscenes are scheduled through the weekend.

Quests, AI, and Design

Warrior Village quests now feature log texts, expanded sub-quests, and updated dialogues with proper emotional states alongside pathfinding bug fixes. Work has started on Max's initiation quest to join the Warrior tribe. Combat design focuses on artificial intelligence for Blackwing, Hopper, and Raptor creatures.

Why this patch matters

This progress report outlines active development steps across multiple departments rather than deploying playable changes to the live game.
