Wild Life Development Update Covers Combat Ranged Modes and Upscaling
Wild Life outlines ongoing development progress, introducing four new ranged weapon shooting modes, reload mechanics, and weapon overheating. The update also covers technical upscaling additions and world design changes.
The Wild Life team details recent development progress, outlining new combat mechanics, technical performance options, and world design updates.
Ranged Combat and Weapon Mechanics
Code updates implement ranged weapon shooting for the new combat system with four distinct modes. Charged mode scales speed and damage when holding and releasing the left mouse button, designed for bows. Semi-Charged fires normal shots if not fully charged, intended for energy weapons. Semi-Auto fires one shot per click for handguns, while Full-Auto keeps firing while holding the button for rifles. Reloading and overheating features are also added, locking certain weapons like energy items until they cool down.
Performance and Upscaling
Upscaling technologies including DLSS, FSR, and TSR, alongside frame generation, are in development and implementation. Upscaling provides performance improvements in graphically heavy sandbox scenes and at higher resolutions, though it does not impact CPU-bottlenecked areas like the current story mode.
World and Level Design
Developers built a tool for distributing collectible resource items across the world map. Mesh decals are in development to detail Alpha Camp with a sci-fi look. Umbar receives a new design philosophy focused on open and unique building architecture.
Quests and Character Content
Warrior Village quests and Maya and Zyke dialogue are iterating to use a new emote feature alongside a poison-extraction minigame. Iljah's world quest allows players to rescue him from cannibals in the Umbar jungle and lead him to the guest house, making him available as a party encounter. The male armor outfit, wildfire outfit redesign, and enemy animations for the Blackwing and Sandshark are also progressing.
