Wild Life Development Update Adds Skeletal Mesh Importer and Environmental Status Effects
Wild Life development update 28.03.2025 details sandbox features, environmental heat and cold systems, level design progress, and character asset additions.
The latest Wild Life development report details progress across level design, coding, character art, and animation systems. Key additions include a skeletal mesh importer, environmental build-up meters, and new sandbox tool controls.
Environment and Systems
Coding work introduces character attributes and two new status effect build-ups: Heat and Cold. Desert environmental zones trigger Heat during the day and Cold at night, inflicting damage over time when maximum thresholds are reached. Sandsharks gain an underground burrowing mode functionally identical to the Blackwing hover mode. Level artists are populating Lake Village interiors, overhauling foliage in Pearl Village and the Umbar Mountains, and advancing Adûn architecture.
Sandbox Tools and Editor Improvements
A new skeletal mesh importer allows players to attach custom rigs matching in-game bone names and offsets to characters, supporting morph targets, textures, and materials. Prop preview widgets receive visual updates. Holding Shift while moving objects now applies to rotation and scaling. Ambient Occlusion settings are added to post-process options. Additional props include two render target props, a render opacity option for UI elements, a camera tilt slider, and Alt-up/down object reordering in the outliner.
Character Assets and Animation
Hair physics setup expands to human males on Max, Sethro, and Bol characters, accompanied by hairstyle transfers. A new dress design is added for Maya, Shey, Geneva, Koodie, Janara, Jenny, Kim, Milanna, Shiva, and Riv. The Sexy Knight outfit transfers to Maya and Koodie, the Loose Dress to Maya, and the Full Knight outfit to Max-based characters. Animation work proceeds through weapon movesets, large monster flinch consistency, control rig cleanups, and romance minigame framing.
Design and Level Planning
Character background information sheets are undergoing updates to refine dialogue. Combat and movement design finalizes weapon lists, movesets, skeleton assignments, and a first draft of the final boss fight. Level design teams write Pearl Village interior direction documents and update Bandit and Caravan Camp blockouts.
Why this patch matters
This development update lays groundwork for survival mechanics and expands sandbox editor capabilities for custom user content.
