War Thunder Preview Details Inventory Recycling, UAV Picture-in-Picture Mode, and Profile Showcases
War Thunder introduces inventory item recycling, player profile showcases, shell stat card redesigns, and a picture-in-picture mode for light tank Scout UAVs.
Gaijin Entertainment details upcoming features and quality-of-life updates slated for the next major War Thunder release, focusing on user interface upgrades, UAV usability, and inventory management.
Inventory Item Recycling
Players can recycle unwanted inventory items at a 2:1 ratio to generate a random new item, such as boosters, wagers, backups, and orders. The feature is currently undergoing internal testing and will debut on the open dev server.
UAV Picture-in-Picture Mode
Light tanks utilizing a Scout UAV can use a picture-in-picture mode. This displays a live video feed of the UAV on the minimap while players continue to drive and fight from their ground vehicle, complemented by a yellow UAV point-of-view marker in the game world.
Player Profile Showcases
New profile showcases are nearly ready for deployment. The Vehicle Collector showcase displays 1 to 3 unlocked vehicles alongside national completion counts, Ace of Spades tracks spaded vehicles per nation, and Medalist highlights 1 to 10 unlocked medals.
UI and Stat Card Redesigns
Shell stat cards are redesigned to display muzzle velocity, close-range armor penetration, and TNT equivalent at a glance. Similar redesigns are planned for smoke grenades, ordnance, and ammo belts. Minimap respawn buttons are updated so that left click pings attention, right click moves the map, and the middle-mouse button marks points of interest.
Visual Reworks and Combat Mechanics
The Rhine, Jungle, and Sinai maps receive graphical revamps without altering their gameplay layouts. A new reward and messaging system tracks the interception of incoming bombs and missiles, complete with an achievement for intercepting bombs weighing over 5000kg. Developers are also testing a fix for the bug where modification research and vehicle RP could be lost if a player left a battle early.
Events and Customization
Monthly decal events return, featuring 5 new markings and 5 reused emblems per month with nation-specific rotation. Cockpit Multi-Function Displays gain weapon pages for aircraft like the Rafale, and upcoming event vehicles include a new ship and a ground vehicle with an alternative weapon system.
