Valheim Patch 1.0.17 Fixes World Save Deletion and Shield Bugs
Valheim receives patch 1.0.17 to fix a world save chunk bug, reset invalid item variants, and restore the credits screen. The update rolls out across platforms over the next few days while maintaining crossplay.
Iron Gate is rolling out Valheim patch 1.0.17 to address critical bugs affecting world saves and item variants. Due to platform restrictions, the update takes a few days to reach all platforms, though crossplay remains active between versions.
Critical World Save and Item Fixes
The update resolves a rare issue that could delete all objects in parts of the world when a large world save chunk file split into smaller ones. It also targets invalid item types, most notably an invalid shield of root variant available on PlayStation 5 in patch 1.0.15. Invalid styles now reset to the default style instead of causing buggy behavior.
Interface and Text Cleanups
Developers updated several placeholder text strings that appeared in earlier versions. The patch also fixes a bug from version 1.0.16 that caused the credits screen to remain hidden.
Why this patch matters
This minor update provides essential stability by fixing save data corruption risks and item errors on PlayStation 5, though players on some platforms must wait a few days for the download.
