Valheim Patch 0.218.21 Adjusts Ashlands Mining and Spawn Rates
Valheim patch 0.218.21 rolls out fixes from the public test branch, altering Flametal mining mechanics and enemy spawn rates in the Ashlands. The update also addresses network corruption bugs, cooking stations, and platform-specific issues.
Valheim receives patch 0.218.21, moving adjustments and bug fixes over from the public test branch. The update targets specific areas in the Ashlands biome alongside general stability improvements.
Ashlands Balancing and Mining
Flametal spires have a 1% chance to start sinking when hit, down from 10%. Players no longer get stuck in falling animations on spires, and successful mining yields 2 to 4 ore per chunk with the correct sound effects. Lava damage mechanics feature a higher damage threshold and variable damage based on depth, while smoke bombs can extinguish fire. Enemy spawn rates for Asksvin, Twitchers, Charred Archers, Charred Melees, Voltures, and LavaBlobs are adjusted.
Item and Building Fixes
The Trollstav cannot be used inside dungeons, displays a warning when attempting to spawn too many trolls, and spawned trolls can now be attacked by bosses. Cooking stations see multiple adjustments, including hare meat moving to the wooden station, while Asksvin and Volture meat require the iron station. Building pieces receive fixes for grausten roof gaps, stone portal placement rules on stone and black marble, and shield generator durability near lava.
Multiplayer and Network Stability
A network object corruption bug is fixed, resolving issues where player bases loaded slowly over time, structural stability degraded unexpectedly, non-tamable enemies became tamed, and tamed animals died randomly. Xbox versions resolve a crash during game suspension, fix broken privilege checks that impacted player communication and session states, and adjust minimap pin sizing on 4K displays. Mac clients receive fixes for ping icons, scrolling performance on weaker hardware, and Game Center platform ID parsing.
General Improvements
Catapults no longer duplicate stacked items, magma fish react to hot fishing bait, and loading screens feature shorter window freezes with an intro that plays during initial loads to cut down wait times.
Why this patch matters
Patch 0.218.21 addresses stability concerns while rebalancing the Ashlands endgame experience, making resource gathering and multiplayer sessions more reliable.
