Stellaris 4.5.2 Cygnus Update Previews Balance Overhauls and Nomadic Adjustments
Paradox outlines tentative changes for Stellaris with the 4.5.2 Cygnus update, focusing on nomadic mechanics, armor and shield upkeep, and numerous bug fixes. The patch aims to refine empire policies and fix persistent desyncs and crash causes.
Alfray Stryke shared tentative patch notes for the 4.5.2 update for Stellaris while Eladrin is off ill. The release focuses on balancing empire civics, adjusting component costs, and fixing issues with nomadic and mechanic-heavy playthroughs.
Economy and Component Balancing
Armor now matches the energy and alloy upkeep of shields of the same tier, dropping down from double the previous cost. Maulers have a reduced base speed of 140, down from 160. The Operational Reserves Conserve approach now imposes a 50 percent penalty on Specialist Job Efficiency rather than flat output for Bureaucrats and Researchers. Experiment Engineers now produce one of each research type instead of two, with their upkeep halved accordingly.
Civic and Empire Adjustments
Nomadic Knights of the Toxic God who tame or slay the Toxic God can now use Arkships to detoxify toxic terraforming candidates into habitable worlds. The Franchising Civic can now ignore Opinion, Trust, and Embassy requirements when proposing Subjugation. Fire Cult now grants Job Efficiency to Fire Dancers instead of unity output, scaling with the habitability of each pop group rather than planet averages.
Interface and Policy Updates
Defense platforms are separated into their own weapon and defense preference policies, while the starbase strike craft weapon preference policy is removed. Policy windows for military and research options now sort alphabetically, and the military policies panel opened via the Fleet Manager has been widened and lengthened to display full names.
Bug Fixes and Stability
A fix resolves an issue where fleets could remain locked in combat if a ship drifted out of weapon range. The large mega bombard mutation now features the correct range and fires during combat. Late-game micro-freezes involving nomad AI are reduced, and a crash tied to unrecognized asteroid belt types on save load is fixed.
Why this patch matters
