Ship Miner Update 0.8.6 Prepares Demo for Steam Next Fest

Ship Miner's latest demo update revamps run variety with base-building mechanics, ship selection, and expanded language support. The patch also introduces auto-pausing features and refines coop mechanics ahead of Steam Next Fest.

Ship Miner has received a demo update ahead of its appearance in Steam Next Fest. Version 0.8.6 focuses on diversifying individual runs through base-building mechanics around the stargate, unlockable tech trees, and distinct ship types.

Base Building and Tech

Players can construct functional stations around the stargate using dark matter, which is dropped by all enemies and replaces anomaly cores. Available stations include mining, repair, bomber, and scan modules that automatically spawn drones or attack enemies. Picking up blueprints opens a dedicated technology window to guide progression.

Ships and Run Variety

Multiple ships are available to select before starting a new run, each featuring unique stats and technologies. The update removes mode and ship selection screens on the first playthrough to streamline the initial experience.

Quality of Life and Coop

The game automatically pauses if a gamepad disconnects or if the Steam Overlay opens. Local co-op runs cannot be continued, but players can restart if all ships are destroyed.

Localization and Interface

Simplified Chinese and Spanish have been added alongside English. Interface adjustments include moving notifications to the HUD and fixing text container sizes and menu statistics displays.

Why this patch matters

Version 0.8.6 gives the Ship Miner demo a mechanical identity, adding persistent station building and distinct ship classes that make repetitive runs more engaging.
