The Rust and Romance update for Necesse launches alongside a Steam Free Weekend and discount. This major patch overhauls settlement life with social mechanics, expands world generation sizes, and adds a tier 8 incursion complete with gear and bosses.
Settler Personalities and Recreation
Settlers feature distinct personalities split into perks that boost combat and work efficiency, and preferences governing individual needs. Work breaks are replaced by a recreation system featuring six different activities and 29 new happiness-granting objects. A new settler list in the top left and an upgraded command menu make management easier.
Romance and Dating Mechanics
Players can initiate a romance by gifting a pretty flower to eligible settlers, triggering unique romance quests that can result in partnerships. Divorce papers can be purchased from the Elder if players wish to end a relationship.
Biomes and The Scrapyard Incursion
Surface biomes are significantly larger, and exploration may lead to Charred Forest mini biomes populated by fiery birds and forgotten golems. The new Tier 8 Scrapyard incursion introduces five enemies, new music tracks, crafting materials like Radiated Essence, and a unique boss that drops Bumper Car mounts.
Crafting, Equipment, and Progression
The update adds craftable weapons and armor sets, including the Rev Sword, Patchwork Grenadier, Pyromancy, and Ignition Key at the Fallen Anvil, plus Phoenix and Makeshift gear sets. A new Transmutation Station allows players to convert essences and shards. Upgrade and salvage stations no longer require essences to craft, and upgrade requirements are re-tiered across the board.
