Deadlock Trims Lanes to Three and Overhauls Economy

Valve's latest patch for Deadlock shrinks the map layout from four lanes to three while overhauling the economy, soul mechanics, and hero kits. Players can also test movement in a new Explore Map mode and benefit from upgraded upscaling technology.

Valve has deployed a massive update for Deadlock, highlighted by a structural map redesign that transitions the battlefield from four lanes to three. Alongside the new geography, the patch touches nearly every system in the game, altering soul generation, sprint behavior, netcode performance, and hero balance across the roster.

Map Redesign and Economy Shifts

The entire playfield is rebuilt around a three-lane layout instead of four. This shift brings wide-ranging adjustments to building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, and juke spots, all of which now feature protective veils. Flex slot requirements change so that the first slot unlocks at two Guardians down instead of three, and the second slot requires one Walker down instead of two. Neutral camp respawn timers drop to three minutes for small camps and five minutes for mid camps, though camp soul values decrease by 10 percent while overall frequency rises. Side Walkers sit at 7,000 HP, mid Walkers at 9,000 HP, and the Mid Boss receives a 30 percent boost to HP and HP growth alongside a new Rejuvenator Symbol.

Soul Mechanics and Movement Changes

Troopers no longer require a killing blow to generate souls, provided players stay nearby, and they lose their near-death flashing behavior. Soul Orb lifetimes in the air drop significantly, physical radius increases by 10 percent, and horizontal movement from troopers decreases while soul denies shift to an even 50/50 split. Default sprint speed climbs from 0.5 to 1.0, and sprint-disable durations drop to four seconds when dealing or taking damage with heroes, and down to 0.5 seconds against non-heroes. Sinner's Sacrifice rewards players with three Golden Statue buffs if destroyed using a timed Heavy Melee, or a single buff for a Light Melee final hit.

Hero Balance Adjustments

Holliday receives nerfs to her Bounce Pad, which drops to 90 damage with a T3 stun duration reduced to one second, while Spirit Lasso also falls to 90 damage. Superior Stamina no longer grants a 7 percent fire rate bonus. Bebop's hooks break on disjoints, his Uppercut locks movement only until the top of the launch arc, and sticky bombs favor the hooked target for 0.25 seconds. Other roster members see targeted adjustments, including Haze hitbox tweaks, Ivy model alignment, and Lady Geist's Life Drain becoming uncancellable while removing the movement slowdown when not actively draining targets.

Performance, Netcode, and Audio

Netcode improvements raise the tick rate from 60Hz to 64Hz for better calculation precision, accompanied by server lag compensation fixes to prevent false bullet hit detection. Graphics options include DLSS support for NVIDIA 2x-class GPUs and an upgrade to FSR3 for Vulkan users, alongside NVIDIA Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2.0 integration. The update introduces a new Explore Map mode accessible from the Play menu, allowing players to run through an empty city to test navigation and movement.

Why this patch matters

This update reshapes Deadlock's pacing by concentrating combat into three lanes and smoothing out early-game economy bottlenecks. With tighter netcode, modernized upscaling support, and sweeping hero tweaks, matches run differently from previous builds.
