Counter-Strike 2 Update Adds Shanghai Major Hub and Weapon Rental System

Counter-Strike 2 patch introduces the Shanghai Major Hub, Pick'Em challenges, and a weapon rental system covering all previous CS:GO weapon cases. The update also adds movement input quantization and map updates for Basalt and Train.

Counter-Strike 2 receives a new update featuring the Shanghai Major Hub, player weapon rentals from legacy cases, and critical backend settings to address movement inputs and server delta ticks.

Shanghai Major Hub and Pick'Em Challenge

The Shanghai Major Hub is now live in-game, allowing players to purchase tournament items and engage with the Pick'Em Challenge. Purchasing a Shanghai 2024 Viewer Pass provides an upgradable coin, extra souvenir packages, and placement on the Active Pass Leaderboard. Prime status holders can place Pick'Em picks for free, though activating a Viewer Pass before an event stage begins is required to complete challenges and earn stage rewards. Additionally, the Ay Hey music kit by Perfect World is now available in standard and StatTrak versions.

Weapon Rentals and Gameplay Settings

Players can now rent weapons from all previous CS:GO weapon cases. A new setting, sv_quantize_movement_input, is enabled by default to prevent players from using analog binds for fractional movement speeds outside the game's design parameters. Policy settings sv_deltaticks_enforce and sv_deltaticks_log are added to help diagnose configurations causing delta ticks out-of-order disconnects. Other additions include support for turning off text backgrounds, support for grenade types other than smoke, and an increased node limit from 100 to 300.

Community Map Updates

Basalt is updated to the latest version from the Community Workshop. Train receives collision fidelity upgrades, including added blockers in the B site to prevent unfair angles, alongside various visual fixes and corrections for map gaps.

Why this patch matters

This update prepares the game for the Shanghai Major while expanding weapon access through case rentals and tightening movement inputs for competitive play.
