Avowed Patch 1.2.2 Revises Equipment Tiers and Fixes Quests

Patch 1.2.2 for Avowed introduces dynamic equipment tier rules, companion combat buffs, and numerous quest progression fixes. The update also prevents upgrade materials from being sold to merchants and addresses companion dialogue frequency.

Obsidian Entertainment has released Patch 1.2.2 for Avowed. The update addresses community feedback by revising equipment tier penalties, improving companion behavior, fixing missing NPCs, and resolving various quest blockers.

Equipment Tiers and Economy

The tier penalty system transitions from a hard tier gate to a dynamic calculation based on player gear and enemy tier with a +/- 4 level gap rule. Tier II enemies now play a reaction animation when struck by lower-tier weapons, and damage reduction is reduced when player weapons match enemy tiers. Companions comment significantly less about player armor and weapon quality. Upgrade materials can no longer be sold to merchants, and Dawnshore dock merchants now sell Fine gear alongside Common gear.

Quest and Progression Fixes

Brambles in Delemgan Glade now vanish when the Adragan Heart is acquired to prevent players from getting stuck. Grysca now speaks correctly to advance An Untimely End despite Thalla spawning twice. Key characters like Ambassador Hylgard and The Watcher Runyd now respawn when loading saves if previously missing. Quests including First Contact with the Enemy, Steel Resolve, One Last Drink, Mapping the Living Lands, and A Lady Never Tells receive flow and condition fixes.

Companion and Combat Improvements

Reviving companions in combat now restores them to 75% health instead of 50%, and starting health pools are increased. Companion summons scale correctly with health and damage, party buffs target companions exclusively instead of summoned creatures, and Kai no longer sticks when using Unbending Defense mid-air. One-handed weapon Parry enchantments and wand Blast visual and audio effects now function properly.

Technical and UI Stability

Crashes tied to casting Corrosive Siphon on destructible objects and VFX memory leaks during paused radial menus have been resolved. Frame rates improve when rendering damage numbers on multiple enemies. Cloud transfer prompts center correctly on ultrawide displays, Xbox cloud save dialog buttons no longer shake, and initial splash screens support Chinese characters properly.

Why this patch matters

Patch 1.2.2 smooths out rough edges in Avowed by softening gear tier penalties, streamlining quest triggers, and fixing stubborn progression bugs.
