A Game About Penguins Update v1.3.0 Adds Photo Mode and Controller Upgrades

A Game About Penguins patch v1.3.0 introduces Photo Mode, contextual control hints, broader gamepad customization, and interface scaling options.

A Game About Penguins receives a major content update in version v1.3.0, introducing a full Photo Mode, a contextual hint system, and extensive interface upgrades for PC and Steam Deck.

Photo Mode and Camera Features

A new Photo Mode is accessible directly from the Pause Menu, allowing players to move the camera, adjust tilt, and zoom around their penguin. The mode includes tools for depth of field, autofocus, contrast, saturation, color temperature, eight filters, and composition grids. Players can hide their penguin, other players, and name tags. Photos save automatically to the Pictures folder and the Steam screenshot library without UI elements, and capturing images contributes to the Photo Stamp.

Control Hints and Input Recognition

A contextual control hints system appears in the bottom-left corner, updating automatically based on current activities such as sliding, fishing, swimming, or driving. Interaction prompts now sit within these hints instead of floating above objects. Players can toggle the hints by pressing H or D-Pad Left. Furthermore, button prompts now dynamically match active input devices across Keyboard and Mouse, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch hardware.

Interface and Minigame Refinements

Version v1.3.0 adds a UI and Text Size setting with 100%, 115%, and 130% scaling options, alongside a dedicated option to hide the UI entirely. The compass has been redesigned for clarity, HUD size on PC has been slightly reduced, and text readability on Steam Deck has been improved. Minigames receive adjustments too, including cleaner health and wave panels in Penguinator and proper controller icons in Penguin Game.

Why this patch matters

Update v1.3.0 significantly expands accessibility and snapshot tools, making navigation cleaner across both desktop and Steam Deck setups.
